Aluminium Busbars
High-conductivity aluminium busbars — up to 70% lighter and 50% lower cost than copper.
Overview
Aluminium busbars are high-conductivity rigid conductors used for power distribution in switchgear, panel boards, bus ducts, transformers, substations, MCCs, renewable energy systems, and industrial electrical installations. Manufactured in EC Grade 1350 and Alloy 6101, they provide electrical conductivity of up to 61% IACS while offering approximately 70% lower weight than copper. Their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and cost efficiency make aluminium busbars the preferred choice for medium- and high-current applications, delivering up to 50% lower installed conductor cost compared to copper.
Key Technical Advantages
Grades
Busbar grades split into two families: high-purity 1xxx grades (EC Grade 1350 / IS grade 19501) that maximise conductivity at 61% IACS minimum, and heat-treatable Al-Mg-Si 6xxx grades (6101 / 91E / IS grade 63401) that trade a few points of conductivity for two to three times the strength — developed specifically for bus conductors where short-circuit forces and long spans demand mechanical performance.
Temper
T6, T61, T63, T64, T65, H111 (6101) · O / H111 / H112, H12 (1350). Strength and conductivity trade off with temper — T6 gives maximum strength at 55–57% IACS, while T61/T64 recover conductivity toward 59.5% — so temper should be specified on every order.
